New research findings from the Center for Disaster Philanthropy and Accountable Now highlight that while funders care deeply about humanitarian crises, they seek clear, proximate and safe pathways for action that can be harder to find.

They receive less than 2% of global philanthropic funding, with most directed to East Africa, leaving West and Francophone Africa as philanthropic deserts. In conversation with SOIL Haiti, whose long-standing partnership with DINEPA helped produce Haiti’s first government-led results-based financing contract for sanitation services, Mme. Petit will share what it takes to build lasting systems within a fragile state: unglamorous persistence, the hard-won policy alignment, and the understanding that lasting change begins and ends with the strengthening of public institutions.
