About the Event
Much has been discussed about the impact of climate change on health. Rising heat, air pollution, flooding, food insecurity, water stress, displacement, and infectious disease are now widely understood as public health threats. Yet as a sector, and even more so as a philanthropic community, we have yet to fully understand the unique and acute impacts of climate change on women’s health and rights across the life course.
Climate change is not gender neutral. Women and girls experience climate disruption through their bodies, care burdens, livelihoods, safety, reproductive autonomy, and access to essential services. Extreme heat and environmental exposures can affect menstruation, fertility, pregnancy, menopause, and endocrine health. Climate shocks can disrupt access to contraception, maternal care, menstrual health products, safe abortion, and gender-based violence services.
