Topic: People Power: National Dialogue and Civil Society Empowerment
One day, somehow, security will be improved and some governance re-instated. We know that real, sustainable change must come from Haitian society. Haitians must hold conversations on how to build a more equitable society so the current situation can never happen again. Supporting efforts to galvanize community engagement and further community development is crucial.
This session will discuss what is needed to support a national dialogue and enable civil society efforts. We will examine inspiring recent examples of citizen collective action - including the massive self-help project to construct an irrigation canal off the Massacre River, driven and executed by local farmers and funded by the Haitian diaspora.
