Navigating the New Development Ecosystem
October 28, 2025, 3-5 pm
With the end of USAID and the reduced role of other bi-lateral donors from many sectors, global philanthropy and development have been irrevocably changed, presenting both a major challenge and unique opportunity. Across the world, service-delivery organizations are scrambling to change their business model and keep significant (and often life-saving) efforts operational. At the same time, others see this as an opportunity to shift power, and to rebuild a new locally-led architecture based on independence and partnership. Both require the entire ecosystem to engage, adjust, and adopt new priorities and values across sectors and silos. How are large philanthropic foundations grappling with this moment? How do they define priorities and opportunities? What strategies can private funders learn, adapt, and adopt from their research and interventions?
